Broadcasting
PrimetexT has been involved in text-enabling companies in the broadcasting sector for over 2 years now.
Services provided include the basic web service to enable broadcasters to schedule crews and production facilities and an SMS to e-mail service for a major broadcaster’s news team to allow reporters “in the field” to communicate effectively with the studio. Messages vary from "are you available to cover ...", to "the broadcast frequencies are ... and the unit manager is ... on tel ...". So the message can contain key data that is used by the cameraman or sound engineer on the day, saving the need to transcribe and possibly miscommunicate information.
Payroll
One of PrimetexT’s clients found that a significant amount of staff time was taken up dealing with calls from weekly paid employees who wanted to know when they were being paid and how much! Using the PrimetexT solution the payroll department is now able to text all their employees with that information every week and the time saved can be applied to improving the service they offer.
This is an automated service whereby the payroll application software generates a file containing the payroll details that is securely transmitted to PrimetexT for delivery as a text message.
Office Communications
There are a number of specific characteristics of SMS text messaging which make it particularly useful for business communication and a number of benefits which companies can accrue from licensing the PrimetexT solution.
- A text message is permanent, so it saves taking notes – it’s with the person all the time so they can refer back to it.
- If the message contains a telephone number, in a text message it can be dialled without re-keying – a time saver for the recipient
- Sending to a group of recipients is no more complicated or time consuming than sending to one.
- The sender receives a confirmation that the message has been received, so no more "didn't you get my voicemail?" conversations.
- Text messaging is much more tolerant of bad or noisy lines.
Put simply because it meets the needs of a wide range of organisations
in a cost effective manner. PrimetexT has
divided the business benefits into 5 areas.
1. It’s based on proven technology
2. It’s simple to set up and use
3. It’s fast
4. It’s flexible
5. It’s cost effective
The addition of a satellite delivery channel was in response to the requirements
of a customer who needed to communicate with their employees in hostile
terrains. No GSM coverage existed and the employees were unable to access
the internet from a computer so PrimetexT enabled the service to be accessed
over satellite networks allowing important messages to be received anywhere
on earth.
Charities
Base 25 is a charity dedicated to the needs of vulnerable young people up to the age of 25. Based in Wolverhampton, the organisation offers free, confidential advice and information on a wide range of issues. Base 25 needs to ensure that young people are reached in a way that best matches their needs, using communication channels that are timely, cost-effective and relevant. Young people in particular require a service which is anonymous and confidential, with the option of no face to face contact. Base 25 also needs to provide services for those who are hard of hearing or those with physical disabilities who may not otherwise be able to access services.
Research identified that over 99% of potential users of Base 25’s services have access to a mobile phone. However, there was no service using mobile phones to provide information to young people. Base 25 contracted mobileYouth, experts in use of mobile technology amongst the young, to investigate the options available with text messaging, a communications medium that young people are extremely comfortable with and adept at using.
The charity decided to work with Orange and PrimetexT, an established provider of web-based SMS services enabling users within an organisation to send and receive text messages to and from a PC using a standard browser.
The user simply texts a dedicated number (provided by Orange), and an automatic response is generated to confirm receipt and to inform that a counsellor will be in touch as soon as possible. All messages are then actioned by counsellors at Base 25 and a response is sent by text message. Text messages are priced at the standard rate for the public, and are included in any ‘bundles’ that they have, unlike premium rate services.
More information is available from the Orange
website.
Patient Appointments
The incredible pace of change in mobile communications technology offers the potential for significant improvements in citizen interface while realising cost saving and performance improvement for UK Public sector organisations. But efficiently harnessing this potential to deliver savings and performance improvement remains a challenge for all public sector organisations.
To help clients address this challenge PrimetexT and Ignetica have pioneered a new service to identify practical m-Government implementation opportunities that help organisations achievable cost reductions and to help organisations realise and leverage maximum business advantage through new communications technologies.
The new service is designed to help NHS Acute trusts and GP surgeries reduce the number of outpatient, GP and Nurse “Did Not Attends” (DNAs), or missed appointments by sending patients automated reminders via text message in advance of their appointment, thus ensuring the number of DNAs due to human error are minimised. Patients will have the option to respond to cancel or request a change of appointment, freeing up these otherwise wasted slots for other patients.
Patients most likely to be DNAs at outpatient clinics are also the most likely to sign up for text reminders. According to new research. SMS patient appointment reminders can reduce DNAs by up to 30% even if only 20% of patients sign up to receive the service, says a study published by Wireless Healthcare.
The patients most likely to forget, or not bother, to turn up for appointments fall within the 16 to 35 age group. By a lucky coincidence people in this age group are heavy users of mobile phones and text messaging. This is one reason why text message based reminder systems have been successful from day one. Research in the NHS within London put the number of out-patient DNAs at a staggering 70% of all appointments. This can be significantly reduced
by reminding people before hand and asking the question “Are you
keeping your appointment?”
Text messaging can also overcome the language and cultural barriers.
In 2003 St. Mary’s NHS Trust received on average over 186,000 individual
patient enquiries for information and dealt with over 6,800 requests
for interpreters all in 72 different languages. Text messaging can help
bridge this divide with automated reminder and tailored information messages
delivered in the most appropriate language.
How we work
Our typical brief is to work with clients to help establish a baseline for their current patient appointment reminder strategy, from this point we then help identify the opportunities and constraint points for adding a low cost SMS solutions into the existing processes. PrimetexT work with Ignetica to help to identify the appropriate area to trial the service. With the PrimetexT service being a web based solution this negates the need for any complex software or hardware installation. This initial scoping exercise can be achieved on a fixed cost basis depending on the size and complexity of the service that needs to be evaluated.
The PrimetexT system allows appointment reminders to be entered in advance, and also for bulk uploads of appointments from existing systems. Where appropriate we can also provide bespoke integration such that appointment reminders can be sent directly from your existing patient systems.
The very nature of the PrimetexT, Ignetica partnership to ensures that as your business develops and your needs change you can call on us to provide ongoing advice and consultancy on all aspects of your services whenever you need it – ensuring your SMS services are always optimised.
